POLL: 63% WANT INDYREF2
Polling carried out by Ipsos Mori for BBC Scotland found an overwhelming 63% of Scots want another referendum, with only 34% now opposed.
Of those in favour, 34% of the 63% want the vote held within the next year or two, while 19% of supporters wouldn't mind waiting another two years beyond that, but no longer.
Younger voters were the most likely to back a plebiscite in the next two years, with 46% of 16 to 34-year-olds backing a vote soon, compared with 22% of those aged 55 and over.
Ipsos Mori Scotland managing director Emily Gray said: “The indication is that Scots’ attitudes are shifting during the coronavirus outbreak.”
Reacting to the poll, SNP MP Pete Wishart commented: "The most inevitable thing in politics is that there will be another referendum on independence and it will be won."
Pollsters conducted the survey via telephone between May 14 and 20.
This most recent study is the latest in a string this year showing a continued and sustained increase in support for independence.
Earlier this month, a Panelbase poll found that at least 50% of Scottish adults now back independence.
